Tomi Boca is a multidisciplinary artist from the Netherlands, born in Groningen, where he also graduated from art school. His work focuses on the everyday. On situations and images we all recognise, but which he places in a different, often unsettling light.

Although his approach is intuitive, each work begins with a carefully considered plan. Tomi primarily works with acrylic paint; in his paintings, reality and the dream world collide. What initially appears colourful and playful gradually unfolds into something more elusive: almost ritualistic scenes in which beauty and unease alternate.

The bright, vivid colours draw the viewer in, but what they reveal is rarely reassuring. Beneath the surface, a tension lingers between attraction and repulsion, between recognition and the unknown. At the same time, there is room for a touch of irony and humour, sometimes only revealing itself upon closer inspection. His work is not intended to provide clear-cut answers, but rather to raise questions. Tomi invites the viewer to keep looking, to question and to discover, in that space between reality and fiction, where anything seems possible.
